This building was originally known as Dryden House and was a private house. In this photograph it is unclear whether the use is still a private house or a shop. If you look closely the struts of a blind awning can be seen over the bay window, something used by many shopkeepers at this time to protect stock from the sun in the window. To the right side of the photograph can just be seen the edge of No. 118 which was up until 1956 the Cheyne Library. Unfortunately in 1956 this building was destroyed by fire which also damaged 116. It would seem that this photo was taken after the fire in 1956 and that No. 116 is empty. Both buildings were demolished in 1958.
