James Lewis Dowling
Pork Butcher and Provisions Merchant by Royal Appointment!
I am a great grandson of James Lewis Dowling, who traded from Leadenhall Market in the late 1890s, his youngest son was Frank Dowling and his son was Stanley William Dowling who was my father.
From census records I have traced James ( aged 65yrs) living with his wife Elizabeth, son Frank and a servant Alice Bayles on Norsey Road, Billericay in 1911.
I wonder if anyone reading this has any further information to pass on. Many thanks.

Yes that works. My Dad (Stanley) had a brother who we knew as Jim as well as two sisters (Dollie and Madge). I can vaguely remember than Jim had a daughter Carol. I can only remember meeting your side of the family once at a funeral. My side all moved away from Essex, initially into East London and then up to the Midlands.
There’s every chance we are related. Well I never!
I think my partner and you are related. Paul Rose is the son of Carol Dowling, who is the daughter of James Lewis Dowling who is the son of Frank!
Hi Stephen, I don’t know if this helps but your great grandfather was a guest at a royal event on the 10th July 1891
The event was “The Reception of His Imperial Majesty The German Emperor at The Guildhall” you can google all about the event and there is a book on it. He is listed on the inside.
