Ready for the quiz

The first event of the Mayflower 2020 celebrations got underway at 7.30pm on Saturday 7th March in the main hall at Emmanuel Church in Laindon Road.

The Lions Club of Billericay held their 10th Taste of Quiz with Taste of America. The quiz featured Five rounds interspersed with food from the United States.

The evening kicked off with Cheesy Corn Muffins served to all of the 90 quizzers in the hall, followed by a quiz round on American food.

We then moved on to have New York Bagels with Pastrami, Sour Cream and Gerkins followed by a round on General Knowledge of the USA. Round Three on Geography was preceded by Louisiana Crab Cakes with a Red Pepper Mayonnaise before an interval during which the raffle tickets were sold and the marathon rounds were completed.

The two marathon rounds consisted of naming 50 famous America faces and identifying 30 unnamed states on a map. Round Four on US Sports was preceded by Diner Sloppy Joes. These consisted of Braised Minced Beef in a Smokey BBQ Sauce topped with Cheese and served with a slice of Lettuce in a toasted Burger Bun. The Final History round was accompanied by a very tasty Chocolate Pecan Brownie.

Thanks go to the question master Trevor Hull who also wrote and researched the quiz and also to Jeans Catering Services for the wonderful food.

The event raised £533 for the Lions charitable work.
