  • I am an Attridge and I am also researching the Attridge family and feel I/we may be able to fill some missing gaps, I had family also living in school road Billericay. My Grandfather was either born or worked at Sudbury farm, before finaly moving and marrying to Southend. There was a cottage in Southend High Street (I believe at the junction of Clifftown Road) called Attridge cottage, I have no further information on this. As a young lad my father Les Attridge (to confuse the issue) would take me to Lake Meadows and we would park in School Road , he always said we parked outside ???? house. If I can be of any help you can contact me through the site.

  • hello, Pippa.

I don’t know if this is of any help.

I worked with a Les Attridge for some years (1993–2000 approx) when he was a gardener at Tylde Hall Farm, working for  Albert Charles Butt. He lived in Lilford Road, off the Norsey Road in Billericay, and had a lovely German wife. He was a very interesting man, and used to keep bees at the farm. As far as I know, he had no children, but he did have a brother in western Australia, who he visited while I knew him.

If this is any assistance, I could email you a photo of him.

  • In the 1950’s this was Gatley’s general store and butchers. My mum worked there during that period. It has now reverted again to a residential property. Mr Gatley also owned a sweet shop in Laindon High Road, almost opposite the police station (now both demolished).

  • My mother is from the Attridge family in School Road, she’s 90 still living in Billericay and she uses the Internet, Skype, EMail etc. Please get in touch with me initially if you like.

  • I have a few Attridges in my extended family tree for the right place and time – if you would like to get in touch I can give you their details. It may help your search.

I also remember my mother Hazel Morley talking of an Attridge family living in School Road, Billericay in the late 1930’s / early 1940’s.  The Attridges are an ‘old’ Billericay family.

The webmaster can put us in touch.

  • Does anybody know an ATTRIDGE. I’m searching for my family and all I know is they were living and working in Great Burstead in 1870s on the land, perhaps for a farm.

    Can anyone help?

     Many thanks

  • This is now called Coxes Farm.

  • I have just been looking at Roger Green’s book “Billericay an historical tour in pictures”, I can now see that this is not Acors farm, as that had 3 windows on the first floor before the house was extended, so this remains unidentified.

  • This looks like Acors farmhouse in Kennel Lane, as a child my family lived on the opposite side of the lane. The house is still standing but much extended, and the large gardens to the south side have been largely built on.
