Sapper Silas George Chapman

Service Number ‘102909’ – Royal Engineers, 179th Tunnelling Coy.

Killed in action on 28th March 1917 aged 34 with 6 collegues. At 7.10pm two shells burst in D section’s billet just after the men had assembled for pay parade. In addition to the 7 killed, 38 soldiers were wounded.

Buried at Faubourg D’Amiens Cemetery, Arras in France

Son of Sam Chapman of Billericay; Husband of Phoebe Clara Chapman of 59, Addison Way, Golders Green, London.
