Mark Halls
Mark Halls was born in Ramsden Heath in 1898 and died, aged 20, on 30 September 1918 of wounds received in action in in France/Flanders.
The 1901 census shows him aged 2, living with his parents, Arthur Robert (1871- Feb 1936), aged 30 and Elizabeth (1873-March 1936, nee Duncombe), aged 28, and siblings Albert 7, Harold 6, May 4 and baby Mabel. His father’s occupation was greengrocer. Arthur and Elizabeth are buried in Park Lane Church cemetery.
The 1911 census shows him aged 12, living in Ramsden Bellhouse with his parents (his father is now a market gardener) and siblings Albert 17, Harold 16 (Albert and Harold are farm workers), May 14, Mabel 10, Daisy 7, Rose 5 and Gladys Lily 3.
After enlisting at Warley, Private Mark Halls served in the Suffolk Regiment, 11th Battalion. His service no. 41972
He rests in the St Venant Communal Cemetery.
Private Mark Halls was awarded the Victory and British War medals.
