Do you know this woman?

A local mystery

This photograph was found by Karen Pearman, a librarian at Billericay Library.

It was found in a library book recently (November 2015) and on the back it reads “Give me a good home. Found in a library book in 2005”

Do you recognize this woman?

Is she a librarian? She is holding a book.

Do you have an opinion of when the photo was taken? We think 1900 – 1910 based on her clothing.

Do you recognize where she is sitting?

  • I was born in Mill Road, Great Burstead. My mother was great friends with Ida Rosaire and we called her Auntie Ida. My Mum made all her Chinese performance outfits and sorted out her tax affairs. Aunt Amelia, Dennis’ wife taught me how to eat spaghetti and how to iron a mans shirt. I went to Carmen’s funeral and they gave me a bracelet that belonged to her. Unfortunately over the years it disappeared. My first love was David Rosaire, Ida’s son; I adored him. The last time I saw Auntie Ida was about 25 years ago when she came to my house for lunch, then, sadly, we lost touch. My sister has always lived in Billericay until her death in September this year. She was my last contact with my history with Billericay.
