George Bennett

George was born in Woodham Ferrers, c 1886 and died, aged 32, on the 23 August 1918 towards the end of the battle of Albert.

His parents were William (1836-1897) and Ann (nee Hull, b.1844)

The 1901 census shows George, aged 14, living with his widowed mother Ann , aged 55, at The Village, Woodham Ferrers.  His occupation was a joureyman baker.  His sister Caroline (aged 26) was a domestic servant and a brother William (aged 19,) a journeyman bricklayer.

The 1911 census shows George, aged 24 living with his wife Clara (aged 21) at The Street, Woodham Ferrers and their son Francis, aged 1.  George’s occupation is Bakers assistant.

He enlisted in Chelmsford  into the 1st Battalion Essex Regiment, his service no. 34371.

Private George Bennett  is buried in the Adanac Military Cemetery, Miraumont.
