Able Seaman Herbert Arthur Mead
Service Number ‘225540’ – Royal Navy, H.M.S. “Vanguard.”
Died on 9th July 1917 aged 32, in an accidental explosion in a magazine on board HMS Vanguard which resulted in the loss of the ship and over 800 of her crew. The ship was anchored at Scapa Flow and is now the site of a protected war grave.
