One Stop

This is a late 16th Century timber framed and plastered building and together with number 91 was known as the “The Gables”, an obvious name when one looks at number 91. Together with 91 this building is reputed to have been the “Hare & Hounds” coaching inn in the 18th Century. To the right hand side of the picture you can see the archway through to the rear which may have been used to get to the stables.93- 97 High StreetIn this photograph you can see a cleaners shop and on the left is a shop repairers. Since then there has been a florists on this site but both shops were converted into one large shop for the convenience store chain One Stop. When the Post Office opposite the library closed the Post Office Counter moved to the rear of One Stop.
