The photo shows No. 51 from the street. At this time Crescent House, which is well set back from the road, still had a front garden with a brick wall fronting the pavement. The photo, right, clearly shows the Georgian red brick house built in the mid 18th century. During the 19th century it was a girl’s school and later a boy’s school. In 1960 a building was erected where the garden wall stood with an archway affording access to Crescent House. Thankfully the two shops, although built in the 60’s, were sympathetic in design and give the feel of a coaching inn.
